How long have you been in business?
UCOM was incorporated in 1985. We celebrated our 25th Anniversary in September, 2010.
What is your primary product or service?
Basic material needs and educational support leading to enhanced self-sufficiency for low-income people in southwestern Kent County Michigan.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
After pastoring and teaching aspiring pastors for 25 years, I encountered my dream job as Executive Director of UCOM. Helping to meet real immediate needs for thousands of hurting people and providing hope for their and their children's future is the most rewarding work I have ever done.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
UCOM intends to be the most welcoming and innovative pantry/resource center in the world. Being among the largest in West MI is a side-effect of that goal.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one location in Wyoming, MI, and do not intend to expand beyond this area. We are part of a network of 100 pantries and 12 pantry/resource centers that serve particular geographic areas in Kent County.

What type of payments do you accept?
UCOM does not charge for its services. We are run strictly by donations from individuals, churches, foundations, United Way, and some businesses.
Which areas do you service?
Wyoming, Grandville and southwest Grand Rapids MI.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
The Executive Director is in charge of daily operations; Program Director oversees all program staff and volunteers. The ED reports to a voluntary, passionately involved and visionary board of directors.
What are your hours of operation?
UCOM's offices are open 9-5p Monday through Friday. Food and clothing pantries are open 9-11:30a Tu-F; 3-7p Tu; and 5-7p, Th. Food pantry is open 30 hours per week. Other programs as scheduled, please call or see www.UCOMgr.org for more information.
