Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We have been offering outstanding music education to the greater Grand Rapids area since 1994.
What is your primary product or service?
Our primary service is music classes/lessons for children, youth and adults.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Every single staff member and instructor at Allegro School of Music has a rich musical background, including extensive performance experience. We all have university degrees and are committed to reaching as many families as possible through our music program.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are unique in that we have musical opportunities and experiences for every single stage of life, which means that someone could start classes with us as a newborn and literally stay with us all the way through their twilight years.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one central studio in a very convenient spot, but we are often able to offer lessons and classes on-location when requested. For example, we have taught sessions at family homes, day care centers, preschools, and churches. Our most exciting plans for the future are that we are currently seeking 501(c)(3) status so that we can become a fully-functioning non-profit. Among other things, this will enable us to charge for services on a sliding scale and thus reach many more families who would benefit greatly from what we offer. We also have plans to move into our own, larger space by the end of 2011.
Provide detailed directions to your location
Our location near the Plainfield exit off I-96 has proved convenient and easy to get to for our program families, who come from a variety of cities around the area. From Plainfield Avenue, turn west on Woodworth and go down the hill. At the bottom of the hill, turn right on Ambrose Avenue, curve around the pond, and go up another hill. Our studio is located inside Aldersgate United Methodist Church, which is on the left side of the road, directly next to Crossroads Middle School in the Northview School District.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. We are pleased to offer monthly payment plans for all of our classes and lessons.
Which areas do you service?
We service all areas of greater Grand Rapids. Our program families currently come from Rockford, Kentwood, Cedar Springs, Ada, Sparta, East Grand Rapids, Greenville, Belding, Forest Hills, Grand Rapids, Comstock Park, and other surrounding areas.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Allegro School of Music featuring Kindermusik is a non-profit organization governed by a board of directors made up of dedicated volunteers, under the name of Family Harmony. Lyn Jameyson, founder, serves as Executive Director and has been a Licensed Kindermusik Educator since 2001.
What are your hours of operation?
We offer lessons and classes at varying times and days throughout the week. Lessons are arranged at the mutual convenience of the student and instructor. Classes are scheduled at times that have proved most popular historically, and additional offerings are often added when requested.
